Bee Facts
Pollination
- One-third of our food supply is dependent, either
directly or indirectly, on insect pollination. Honeybees
accomplish an estimated 80% of insect pollination.
Honeybees are needed to pollinate a variety of fruits,
berries, vegetables, tree nuts, oil seeds, and legumes.
A 1999 Cornell University Study reported that the
direct value of honeybee pollination is over $14 billion
annually. This value only reflects the value of increased
crop yields and quality due to honeybee pollination.
The study does not assign a value for honeybee pollination
of home gardens, wildlife, etc.
